The Daily Retro Pic: 1935 Labor Day Train Wreck Caused by Category 5 Hurricane

The 1935 Labor Day Hurricane was a Category 5 hurricane that formed as a tropical storm east of the Bahamas on August 29 but hit the Florida Keys on Labor Day, September 2 (78 years ago today). A train that consisted almost entirely of Bonus Army veterans and their families was almost totally swept away. The hurricane killed more than 400 people (200 veterans), nearly all in the Florida Keys.
